A BILL to amend article one, chapter five of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated section twenty-seven, relating to the governor providing state flags for funeral services for all state employed law-enforcement officers.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article one, chapter five of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section twenty-seven, to read as follows:
CHAPTER 5. GENERAL POWERS AND AUTHORITY OF THE GOVERNOR,

SECRETARY OF STATE AND ATTORNEY GENERAL; BOARD

OF PUBLIC WORKS; MISCELLANEOUS AGENCIES, COMMISSIONS,

OFFICES, PROGRAMS, ETC.

ARTICLE 1. THE GOVERNOR.
§ 5-1-27. Draping of state flag to honor the passing of law-
enforcement officers.
When any law-enforcement officer employed by the state or anyof its political subdivisions dies while on active duty or after being honorably discharged or honorably retired, upon the request of next of kin, the governor shall honor the officer by providing a state flag, at no cost, for draping the coffin at the funeral service of the deceased officer.

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to honor all law-enforcement officers of the state who have died either on active duty or after being honorably discharged or retired by providing state flags for draping their coffins at their funerals.
